Deadline approaches for Flavours of Herriot Country Awards

The 2018 Flavours of Herriot Country award winners and sponsors.

The deadline is approaching for the 8th Flavours of Herriot Country Awards.

The closing date for entries of new and established businesses, whatever their size, is midnight on Friday, August 30.

The awards focus on all of the outstanding and innovative food and drink businesses across Richmondshire and Hambleton.

There are the 12 categories and businesses can enter more than one category:

  • Breakfast of the Year.
  • Tea Room of the Year.
  • Local Product of the Year.
  • Specialist Retailer of the Year.
  • Afternoon Tea of the Year.
  • Pub Food of the Year.
  • Restaurant of the Year.
  • Baked Product of the Year.
  • Cafe/Restaurant of the Year at a Visitor Attraction.
  • Customer Service Team of the Year.
  • Locally Produced Beer of the Year.
  • Young Professional Chef or Catering Student of the Year (under 25).

The Reader’s Choice Award, sponsored by the Darlington & Stockton Times, is a special category, as the public can vote for their favourite business from the list of finalists, which will be announced after close of entries.

Chair of the Flavours Awards, Irene Myers said: “In particular, we want head chefs and managers, to help and support their young chefs or catering students to enter.

“The special category ‘Young Professional Chef or Catering Student of the Year’, gives the opportunity of winning this special award to help them forward in their careers.

“The feedback we have had from last year’s winners on what the awards have done for their businesses is what it’s all about.”

The awards will be presented by BBC Radio York presenter Elly Fiorentini.

The awards event is on Monday, December 2, 11am to 2.30pm at the Garden Rooms, Tennants, Leyburn.
