Richmondshire residents could be in line for free energy efficient air source heating equipment to replace inefficient systems.
Homeowners and tenants that currently run inefficient heating systems – such as storage heaters or solid fuel heaters – could get a fully funded renewable heating system installed through a new scheme.
Residents living away from the gas network, looking to reduce their heating costs, are being encouraged to consider this scheme.
North Yorkshire County Council has secured funding through the National Grid’s £150million Warm Homes Fund to help people living in Richmondshire and other parts of the county.
The renewable heating scheme aims to install 200 renewable heating systems in homes across the four county.
At the heart of the system is an air source heat pump, which typically provides more than three times the heat for each unit of electricity used to power it.
This heat is delivered into the home via new radiators and a hot water system.
The North Yorkshire Heat Pump Scheme is targeting properties that do not have an existing gas, oil or LPG central heating system and are located away from the gas network.
Householder eligibility criteria will also be taken into consideration as part of the qualification process.
Richmondshire District Council leader Councillor Angie Dale, said: “This scheme will help some of our vulnerable residents improve energy efficiency in their homes and reduce fuel costs. It is a pioneering new method of home heating which we hope to see in many Richmondshire homes.”
County Councillor Caroline Dickinson, executive member for public health, prevention and supported housing, added: “This renewable heating scheme gives our more vulnerable residents in Ryedale, Scarborough borough, Richmondshire and Hambleton the opportunity to upgrade their homes to the latest low carbon heating technology for free.
It will not only help eligible residents reduce their fuel bills but improve the energy efficiency of properties in North Yorkshire.”

As usual another scheme that is only for people on some kind of benefit. It seems the more you claim from the state the more you get! It seems the harder you work to just get by the less you get.
