A HGV on fire caused delays for motorists on the A1 this afternoon.
The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway just before the Catterick junction.
One lane was closed but two lanes remained open.

The fire started in the vehicles axle.
The incident caused severe congestion but all lanes were reopened at about 4pm.
