Leyburn entrepreneur becomes rhino charity ambassador

Hannah Russell.

Leyburn author and entrepreneur Hannah Russell has been announced as an ambassador for ‘Helping Rhinos.’

Hannah, 21, from launched an online company called Russell Rhino in January to help raise awareness for rhinos.

Since launching the company just four months ago the products have been shipped all round the world, including Canada, Spain, Ireland, France, The Netherlands and the USA.

This story continues after the adverts:

Hannah, who has published several best-selling children’s books about her miniature Shetland called Little Alf, said: “After seeing an article online last summer about 10.5kg of Rhino horn seized in Hong Kong with the value of over two million pounds, I felt I had to do something.

“The thought of the torture the rhinos must go through was really upsetting. I came up with the idea of starting a clothing brand and designed some art work.

“After working with a graphic design company for a few months the designs where brought to life and got a really positive response online which lead to the new brand being born.”

Through the clothing brand a portion of every sale goes to Helping Rhinos, a charity dedicated to rescue and protect Rhinos in their natural habitat by delivering tangible results in anti-poaching and habitat preservation.

On average three rhinos a day are still being killed by poachers in Africa, sometimes as many as 12 rhinos have been killed in a single 24-hour period.

International NGO Helping Rhinos is leading an innovative approach to conservation that will ensure the long-term survival of rhino and other endangered wildlife in their natural habitat.

Founder and CEO of Helping Rhinos Simon Jones said: “There is no single solution and if we are to save the rhinoceros we must focus on their security, on habitat protection and engage and empower local communities.

“We must also create every opportunity we can to raise awareness and generate funds to support the valuable work of our project partners.”

Through Hannah’s work she was asked to be an ambassador for the charity.

Hannah said: “I’ve always been an animal lover and I’m really excited to be on board with Helping Rhinos, they are a fantastic charity and I’m looking forward to continuing my work with them this year.”

  1. Bless you for all you do for the rhino’s…it breaks my heart what humans are doing to our wildlife. I have to speak up whenever and wherever I can for the voiceless ones….as they need us more than ever before to use our voice and our power to help them.
