A Leyburn shop owner and author has raised more than £20,000 to support the work of charities helping Australia’s wildlife.

Hannah Russell, who runs Russell Home interiors and Gifts and also writes the Little Alf series of books, was prompted to act by the devastating wildfires which have swept the country.

She has brought out two designs of koalas which have been printed on to clothing and merchandise.

All of the proceeds from sales of the items will go to Australian wildlife animal charities.

She has raised more than £20,000 in a week.

The money raised will be used to fund emergency veterinary care and scientific intervention, such as exploring supplementary feeding for animals who have survived, but whose habitats have been destroyed in the bush fires.
