A Leyburn store has worked with a Colburn distillery to produce an own brand gin as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations.

The Campbell’s gin was made by the Yorkshire Dales Distillery.

Store manager Richard Walker said distiller Tony Brotherton was keen for Campbell’s to have an input into the taste and branding.

The store already has its own brand honey which is produced by bees from hives in Hipswell.

The honey, together with heather from Yorkshire Dales moors, was added to lemon to give the gin a local flavour.

Richard said: “We wanted the gin to reflect the surrounding area so we were delighted to be able to use local honey and heather to flavour the spirit.

“It’s our 150th anniversary and the gin is one of a number of things we are doing to celebrate this special year.”

Tony said Yorkshire Dales Distillery was delighted to have worked with Campbell’s to develop the gin.

He added: “With them we have carefully selected some key elements to create a unique expression. It is a London dry gin that can be widely enjoyed yet at the same time has a unique flavour, and we are looking forward to making lots more for them.”

Samples are available from the wine and spirits department upstairs at Campbell’s.

A 70cl bottle of the Campbell’s of Leyburn gin sells for £34.99.
