New councillor required for Leyburn Town Council

A new councillor is to be co-opted onto Leyburn Town Council.

A councillor is needed following the resignation of Cllr Charlotte Harper.

A by-election has not been requested meaning the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

Anyone interested in filling the position should apply in writing to the town clerk before noon on Thursday, February 8.

The councillor will be chosen at a meeting on Monday, February 19.

Candidates will have to opportunity to speak at the meeting prior to the selection process.

To qualify, applicants must be over 18 and their names should appear on the current electoral register for Leyburn, or should during the whole of the 12 months preceding the relevant date have resided in or within three miles of the town, or the applicant’s only place of work during the whole twelve months preceding the relevant date should be in the town.

The applicant must not be disqualified from standing as a Councillor. Please refer to Local Government Act 1972 sections 79-81.
