It was Askrigg’s fancy dress parade yesterday, with the whole town donning dresses and wigs and walking up and down the main street, with tractors stopping the traffic at each end.
There were 118 118 runners, “four in a bed”, a couple of Trumps and Putins, the cast of the Wizard of Oz, the Simpsons, and even an Amanda Owen “Yorkshire Shepherdess” impersonator, with ten children in tow.
After the judging was concluded in the packed village hall, the Northern Monkey Brass Band came to do a quick set for the energetic crowd. The band were in town to do a gig for the Swaledale Festival, but found the time to make an appearance beforehand.
