The Princess Royal spent a day carrying out official engagements in Wensleydale this week.

After visiting Johnston Racing in Middleham, Princess Anne toured Tennants Auctioneers and The Garden Rooms in Leyburn.

The Princess toured behind the scenes at Tennants and talked to the specialists involved in curating the 80 sales which take place every year.

The Princess also heard about the expansion of the business in 2014 to include purpose-built exhibition and event spaces before meeting staff who had served for more than 10 years with the company.

The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire Johanna Ropner said: “It was a pleasure to welcome The Princess Royal to Wensleydale and combine Her Royal Highness’s charitable work with a visit to Tennants; an important business to the local economy.”

The day then finished with the Royal party heading to the Wensleydale Heifer to attend a charity dinner organised by Racing Welfare.

Princess Anne was presented with a piece of art by Richmond artist Lucy Pittaway.
