Wensleydale RUFC have sealed the Yorkshire Division Three championship making it three promotions in five years.

Fist team coach and team manager Richard Pearson described it as a “fantastic achievement from a squad built up of local talent”.

He added that most of the players had come through the club’s successful junior section.

“Long may that continue,” added.

Richard said the club’s aim was to create a fun environment for all, on and off the field.

The playing style was a fast flowing open game which he said was achieved through excellent coaching throughout all the age groups.

“This requires a high standard of fitness at first team level which has created players who can keep a consistency of play never seen at Cawkill Park.

“Head coach Jim Chapman and his coaching team know what the requirements are and the players fully understand.”

Several senior players have moved into coaching, including George Pearson who has coached an age group for two seasons and takes that squad into under 16s.

Jacob McRobert and Carl ‘Bodge’ Burnett, former England 18s and GB students, will take on the under 14s next season, with the club giving thanks to Stephen ‘Smurf’ Michael who has coached this team for the past seven years.

“Looking ahead for the first team there will be local games against Ripon and Northallerton, plus Wetherby and North Ribblesdale in Yorkshire Two and the lads are looking forward to the challenges,” added Richard.
