140 properties lose power as Storm Ophelia passes through Richmondshire

Officials say 140 properties are without power in Richmondshire this morning as Storm Ophelia passes through the district.

The problem is affecting homes and businesses in the DL9 and DL10 postcodes, which include the Catterick Garrison and Richmond areas.

The problem was reported at 2.40am this morning and although some homes do now have power, the problem is not estimated to be fully fixed until 12noon.

Elsewhere the A66 trans-Pennine route is back open to high-sided vehicles after being shut this morning due to the wind.

Further problems have been caused by falling trees with reports of a tree partially blocking the A684 near Constable Burton.

Another tree is down between Preston-under-Scar and Wensley, however the road is passable with care.

A Met Office yellow warning for wind runs until 3pm today with gusts of up to 70mph forecast.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The strongest winds are likely during the morning’s busy travel period before gradually easing.”
