Richmond Motor Club was pleased to welcome 250 riders back to the annual Reeth 3 Day Trial, which was held from Friday, July 17 through to Sunday, July 19.
One of the biggest events on the club’s calendar, the trial saw riders from the UK and further afield congregate in Reeth for a weekend of riding, socialising and good craic.
RMC’s committee members once again ran “The Last Section Bar” in the Start Field, offering low-cost drinks to riders and spectators across all three days, allowing riders and their families to relax with a cheap pint of local ale whilst reviewing the scores of the day.
After a good few weeks of warm and dry weather in the lead up to the event, riders were pleased to have some slightly cooler weather for the weekend. With temperatures in their high teens and early 20s it was a pleasant relief after weeks of up to 30C weather and beating sunshine.
The weekend was kicked off on Friday morning with riders signing on from 8am in the Secretary’s Tent, collecting their ‘goodie bag’ with their number board for the weekend, as well as their souvenir shirt and programme. The first two riders were away at 10am, continuing in pairs in 30-second intervals until the back markers headed off to collect the flags for each day.
Friday saw Darren Fowler and team take the riders out of the Woodyard Start Field and up around Hurst and Marrick, nearing some famous Scott Trial and Mintex ground.
Spanish rider and 2025 Reeth 3 Day Trial winner Adam Raga returned to the trial this year, hoping to retain the winning trophy for another year. After winning the Scottish Six Days Trial in May this year, Raga (Sherco) was keen to get another UK trial win under his belt. Raga finished Friday with just 1 mark lost across 30 sections after a slack dab on Section 28, putting him in the lead on Day 1. 2024 Reeth 3 Day Trial winner Harry Turner (Sherco) also finished the first day with just 1 mark lost after having a dab on Section 22. Jack Price (GASGAS) finished Day 1 in third place after dropping 3 marks on 3 sections. Darren Brice (Beta) and James Lampkin (Beta) led the Clubman A (Green) Course after the first day, both losing just 3 marks. On the Clubman B Course, Tom Hick (Fantic) took the lead on 9 marks lost, followed by John Bannister (Vertigo) and Max Lampkin (Beta) on 12 and 14 marks lost respectively.
Saturday’s route was marked out by Paul Astwood and his team, who took the riders up into Arkengarthdale. Scores were low again for the second day, with Raga, Turner and Price all managing to keep their feet up and go clean across all 35 sections. On the Clubman A Course, Richard Timperley (Beta) lost just 3 marks, closely followed by James Lampkin (Beta) on 4 marks and Matthew Maynard (Sherco) on 6 marks lost. Louise Alford (GASGAS) dropped the least marks of the day in the Clubman B Course, finishing with just 5 marks lost. Roger Williams (Yamaha) dropped 6 marks, and David Coulson (Beta) dropped 8.
Nigel Cummins and team marked out the final day’s route, heading up Swaledale. At the end of the day, the final scores were totted up and the awards were presented on Sunday evening in the Start Field. It was neck and neck between Sherco teammates Raga and Turner to see who could drop the least marks and clinch the win overall. A 5 from Raga on Section 17 allowed Turner to afford a couple of dabs without too much worry, leading him to finish the trial on an impressive 4 marks lost across 3 days of 95 sections. With Raga finishing on 7 marks lost overall, this meant Harry Turner (Sherco) was awarded the Cliff Addison Memorial Trophy sponsored by Nathan Stones of NLS Contracts as the overall winner of the trial.
Despite missing out on the win for this year, Spaniard Adam Raga (Sherco) was pleased to finish in second place overall on 7 marks lost, followed by Jack Price (GASGAS) on 17 marks lost.
Local rider Richard Sadler (Vertigo) finished just behind in fourth place on 18 marks lost with Scottish lad Ben Dignan (Sherco) coming in fifth on 34 marks lost overall.
In sixth place was first timer Tom Swindlehurst (Scorpa) on 39 marks lost. Swindlehurst was also awarded the Leigh Jepson Memorial Award for best performance by a first timer on the Hard Course. 2025 Scott Trial winner Jonathan Richardson (Vertigo) finished in a respectable seventh place on 41 marks lost.
On the Clubman A Course, James Lampkin (Beta) took the win with just 10 marks lost overall. Darren Brice (Beta) and Richard Timperley (Beta) battled it out for second and third, finishing on 16 and 19 marks respectively.
The Clubman B course was won by Tom Hick (Fantic) on 20 marks lost across the weekend – an impressive result on a twinshock! John Bannister (Vertigo) was second on 23 marks lost and Roger Williams (Yamaha) was third on 30 marks lost, again an impressive score on an older bike!
Richard Ridley (Montesa) was once again awarded the Harkers Coaches Shield for the best performance by a local rider on the Clubman Course. Jack Stones (Vertigo) was awarded the Red Lion Trophy for the best performance by a local rider on the Hard Course. Kaytlyn Adshead (Vertigo) was awarded the Peter Young Trophy for the best performance by a lady rider.
