Richmondshire communities on the route of this year’s Tour de Yorkshire can tap into a £30,000 cash pot set up by district councillors.

The event fund will help to help stage local events to celebrate the race coming through the district in May.

Leyburn town – which hosts finishes for the ladies and men’s races on May 1 will receive £10,000 of the pot.

The remaining £20,000 will be available for other towns and villages on the route.

However, there is a £2,000 limit for each of these applications.

The race starts in Skipton on May 1 and travels through Hawes, Reeth, Grinton and Akebar before arriving in Leyburn market place.

Information on the four day Tour de Yorkshire and the fund is available here.

  1. This money should be put to better use, i.e. fixing the roads for the people who live & work here, use the pot holed roads & put the money into the council pots!
