35-house development in Middleton Tyas to be decided

Final plans for 35 new homes in Middleton Tyas will go before planners next week.

Outline planning has already been granted for the scheme in Kneeton Lane and planning officers are recommending the scheme is given the final approval.

The original plan was for 25 of the properties on the site to be four-bedroom homes or bigger.

This story continues after the averts:

This prompted the parish council to raise comment that the scheme did not provide an appropriate accommodation mix with, with a need in the village for homes for the elderly and affordable properties for the young.

However, following negotiations with council planning officers, the applicant has agreed to build 10 two-bedroom, 12 three bedroom and 13 four or more bedrooms homes.

Of these, six would be bungalows, two of which would be classed as affordable.

The council and local residents have also raised concerns about flooding in the area.

But officials say the plans submitted “demonstrate a reasonable approach to the management of surface water on the site”.

The applications will be discussed by Richmondshire district councillors on Tuesday, September 4.
