46 Richmond businesses sign up to Magic Tenner promotion

Mick and Wendy Robinson from Granny's Kitchen who are one of the 46 participants.

A wide range of independent businesses in Richmond are coming together to take part in the Magic Tenner campaign from May 11 to 26 in an initiative organised by Totally Locally.

They will be offering £10 deals to encourage people into independent shops and to give a boost to the local economy.

Experts say that for every £10 spent in an independent business, up to £50 goes back into the local economy.

This is because most independent businesses work in partnership with many others.

Buying online, or at the big national chains and supermarkets has a much smaller effect, as most of the money leaves the local economy.

Alongside the £10 offers, shops will be displaying posters showing how many local businesses supply and work with them, to emphasise how supporting one local business supports many others.
