500 Richmondshire businesses still to apply for Government grants

Five hundred eligible Richmondshire businesses still haven’t applied for a grant from the Government.

Businesses across the district have so far benefited from more than £13.2 million to help them through the coronavirus pandemic.

Almost 1,400 of the district’s businesses have received cash from the Government which is providing small business grants due to the crisis.

But district council officers say there are still another 500 companies that haven’t applied for the aid – around 30 per cent of the total number of businesses registered with the authority.

“Some businesses may think they do not qualify but we urge them to get in touch with us – this aid is there for all size of operations, from larger hotels and garages to small bed and breakfasts, hairdressers and cafes,” said chief executive, Tony Clark.

“There is no complicated application form to complete – all we need to do is check records match with our business rate database and we can turn the grant around very quickly.”

The online grants service for small business rate relief, rural rate relief and retail, hospitality and leisure grants was launched on March 27 – and has now received 1,353 requests.
