63 riders take on the ‘mini Scott Trial’

Richmond Motor Club ran the annual Mintex Youth Time & Observation Trial — AKA the mini Scott Trial — on Sunday, August 30.

A thick fog rolled through the fields early on Sunday morning, with the threat of rain lingering throughout the day. Thankfully the fog lifted just before the first rider set off onto the course at 9.30am, after a safety briefing held by Clerk of Course Matthew Maynard.

The rain held off until around 4pm, just before the awards presentation started! A total of 63 riders headed out onto the course at 30 second intervals, ready to tackle 2 laps of 30 sections across some well-known Scott Trial ground.

Josh Dent (Beta) was the last rider away. After finishing in fifth last year, he was keen to improve on his score and get a place on the podium. Dent raced round the course and was the first official finisher back to the start field, meaning he set Standard Time and was awarded the Mintex Cup. Earning 0 marks on time and finishing with 77 marks on observation, Dent earned himself the W. C. Stones Trophy plus a tyre sponsored by C J Tennants for third place.

In second place was Koby Smith (Beta), with a huge improvement on his 2025 result of 14th place. Smith finished with 45 marks on observation and 28 marks on time, awarding him the Barry Robinson Trophy sponsored by Langstaff Builders, and a tyre sponsored by NLS Contracts. Smith was also awarded the Luscombe Suzuki Trophy sponsored by PDM Off Road for the best performance by a rider under the age of 15 on the day of the event.

Max Lampkin (Beta) finished in 12th place in the 2025 trial and had a fantastic result this year, finishing on 41 marks lost on observation and 30 marks on time, putting him in first place with a total score of 71. Lampkin was awarded the Mintex Trophy for the win, alongside a tyre sponsored by AG Bikes.

Hudson Ravenhill-White (Sherco) finished in fourth place on a total score of 80 marks, receiving the Lowther Engineering Trophy sponsored by Rennison Tree Scape. Archie Bremner (Sherco) was just behind him in fifth place on a total of 81 marks, receiving the Mark and Mags Lundberg Trophy. Bremner was also awarded the NLS Contracts Trophy for the rider with the best score on observation only, after losing just 39 marks. Unfortunately Bremner’s high time penalty score of 42 pushed him down the rankings.

Connor Watson (GASGAS) came in sixth place with a total of 84 marks. Liam Barker (Beta)  finished seventh place on a total of 100 marks and was also awarded the Syl Palmer Trophy sponsored by GE Brown & Son Builders for the best performance by a first timer.

Also receiving Mintex Salvers were Edwyn James (TRS) in eighth on 102 marks, Alfie Drachenberg (Beta) in ninth on 113 marks and Zachary Sellers (Beta) in tenth on 123 marks.

Sophie Sellers (Beta) was awarded the J. S. Johnson Trophy sponsored by A Swainston for the best performance by a female rider. The Harkers Coaches Trophy plus a tyre sponsored by AG Bikes was awarded to Joseph Witting (GASGAS) for best endeavor after offering assistance to another rider during the trial.

A huge well done to all riders who came and rode the trial, and thank you to parents and guardians for all their support. Richmond Motor Club would like to say a special thanks to the landowners, farmers and gamekeepers for the use of the land. Also to the Clerk of Course and all his helpers, to marshalls, observers, sponsors, secretaries, petrol stop officials, and everybody else involved in the running of the event. Thank you to Swaledale Mountain Rescue for their continued support of the trial.
