A hint of spring as snowdrops go on show in a cottage garden

It’s Snowdrop Sunday in Askrigg this weekend when one of the village’s prettiest wooded gardens will once again be open to visitors.

The tiny white flowers which give a promise of spring in the depths of winter will – if the snow doesn’t bury them – create a stunning show at Dog Kennel Cottage, home of Mel and Steve Willis, at the west end of the village, from 2-4pm on Sunday.

Regardless of the weather, there’ll be home-made light refreshments and the charge of £2 will go towards repairs to the tower of the 14th century St Oswald’s Church in the centre of Askrigg.  Snowdrop Sunday is one of many fundraising and social events planned for the coming months.
