Police say a lorry driver died in this morning’s collision on the A1,
The incident occurred at junction 50 of the A1M near Baldersby at 7am this morning.
The collision involved an articulated lorry and a car transporter, which were both travelling northbound.
Sadly the driver of the articulated lorry died at the scene.
Police are not yet in a position to release his identity.
The lorry caught fire after the collision
Fire appliances from Bedale, Ripon, Boroughbridge, Richmond and Northallerton attended the incident.
Fire crews used breathing apparatus, main jets, hose reel jets, small tools and a water bowser to extinguish the fire.
Police officers from the major collision investigation team are appealing for any witnesses who were travelling along that section of the road, who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, or anyone who may have captured dash cam footage to contact them.
Police announced at about 8.30pm that the road had reopened after being closed all day while the emergency services worked at the scene and the wreckage was removed.
