Man dies on A1(M) at Catterick junction

The Catterick junction of the A1(M).

An investigation has been launched after a man died at the Catterick junction of the A1(M).

The emergency services received a call at 11.44pm last night regarding the concern for safety of a man at junction 51 of the motorway.

The man was seen on the wrong side of the bridge barrier over the northbound carriageway.

The man was later found on the carriageway and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene

The man’s family have been informed.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: “An investigation in now underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.”

The A1(M) northbound was shut until around 6am this morning due to investigative work.
