A6108 due to reopen as emergency repairs continue

The road is closed at Boston Farm.

A road closed for emergency repairs is due to reopen today.

Boston Bridge, on the A6108 between Walburn Hall and Half Penny House, was closed for safety earlier this week.

Damage to the bridge sustained as a result of scouring has been identified and repairs are now under way.

The road is closed to motor vehicles at the moment, but access is being maintained for pedestrians and cyclists via a temporary crossing that has been put in place over the bridge.

Officials say the aim is to open this crossing to motor vehicles under traffic light control later today.

At the same time, repairs to the bridge are being carried out.

Barrie Mason, assistant director highways and transportation at North Yorkshire County Council, said: “The team has responded very quickly to make the bridge safe and begin repairs to minimise disruption.

“The repairs will not affect the UCI Road World Championships races taking place in the Dales at the weekend.”
