A66 reopens following 11-hour closure

The A66 trans-Pennine route has reopened after being shut for almost 11 hours following an accident.

A HGV overturned causing a large spillage of diesel.

The incident happened near Ravensworth.

The road was shut between Scotch Corner and the A67 junction for the vehicle to be removed and the fuel to be cleaned up.

The road was reopened at about 11.35pm on Saturday evening.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 12.50pm to reports a person was trapped in the HGV.

The person was out of the vehicle when they arrived however.
