A66 remains shut and school still closed – but weather easing

The A66 remains closed between Scotch Corner and Brough this morning.

While there has not been significant snow falls overnight drifting snow continues to be a problem.

A number of schools in Richmondshire will remain shut on Friday. These include all of those in Catterick Garrison.

  • Wensleydale School
  • SFX
  • QE in Darlington
  • Richmond School
  • Leyburn Primary
  • St Mary’s
  • Middleton Tyas
  • Eplleby Forcett
  • Richmond C of E
  • Richmond Methodist
  • Middleham
  • Askrigg
  • Bainbridge
  • West Burton

A Met Office amber weather warning remains in place for much of the district, although this will end at 10am this morning.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice will however remain in place throughout the day.

North Yorkshire County Council says all priority routes have been ploughed and gritted.
