A66 reopens after serious collision

The A66 at Scotch Corner.

The A66 has reopened after a serious collision last night.

A car and van collided near Mainsgill Farm Shop at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night.

Fire crews from Richmond and Colburn responded to the incident and released the male driver of the car who was trapped in his vehicle..

He was taken to hospital suffering with head injuries, chest pains and difficulties breathing

The road was closed between Scotch Corner and Barnard Castle for several hours while the emergency services and National Highways worked at the scene.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area until further notice and to follow the diversions.

Witnesses to the collision should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 4, and speak to the Force Control Room.
