A66 reopens after ice causes havoc on region’s roads

North Yorkshire Police last night urged drivers not to travel following numerous accidents caused by ice.

The A66 shut between Bowes and Brough while further crashes bave been reported on the A1.

The road has since reopened.

A police spokesperom said: “Please do not travel tonight unless absolutely necessary .

“We have reports of numerous road traffic collisions on the A1, A66 and A19 coming in due to black ice and freezing rain making road conditions treacherous.”
