The A684 at West Witton is to shut for a week later this month for resurfacing work.
The road will be closed between 9am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, from Monday, March 16.
Motorists will be diverted through Bainbridge, Wensley and Redmire.
“There have been requests from the public for resurfacing work to be carried out in West Witton so we are pleased to be able to deliver,” said county councillor Karin Sedgwick, member for Middle Dales.
“We have been carrying out similar projects in Richmondshire to ensure the roads are the best they can be for drivers.”
County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, added: “Although the work will inevitably cause some disruption we are sure the travelling public will appreciate the long-term benefits.
“I would like to remind drivers to follow the diversions in place and make arrangements to leave their vehicles in alternative locations.”
Drivers in the village are asked to move their vehicles from the road before 8am.
Road bosses say that during the works, vehicle access to properties will be restricted and parking will not be permitted, but on-site contractors will assist wherever possible.

Requests for resurfacing? It was only done about 6 years ago but soon after started subsiding. They used a low noise surface – useless when so many dips appeared and it when it was patched (and the patches patched) the noise of HGVs is disturbing especially that *&** that goes through between 4 and 5 am. Flatts Lane a single track below Main Street that carries 8-10 vehicles a day was better surface although that is now breaking up too. Highways know how to waste our money.
