Organisers of Muker Show have launched a public fundraising appeal after being offered the chance to purchase the main show field that has hosted the popular event for more than a century.
The Muker Show Committee say the opportunity would secure the long-term future of the show, which has been held on the field since 1893.
Committee members have already raised nearly £30,000 towards the purchase and are now inviting the public to contribute to help reach the total needed to buy the land.
They say the move would ensure the field remains the permanent home of Muker Show for future generations and protect one of Upper Swaledale’s best-known community events.
A spokesperson for the committee said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the Show to own the main show field, ensuring it will continue to be the ‘home’ of Muker Show for many years and future generations to come.”
The committee say every contribution, no matter the size, will help bring them closer to securing the historic field and safeguarding the future of Muker Show.
They added: “All donations will be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support.”
Supporters can donate through the show’s official GoFundMe fundraising page.
Donations can also be made by cheque, payable to Muker Show Ltd, and sent to: Helen Guy, East View Cottage, Keld, North Yorkshire, DL11 6LJ.
