An archive of historic indentures relating to Middleham are to be sold in the country house sale at Tennants Auctioneers next month.
The documents have an estimate of £500-600 plus buyer’s premium at the sale on May 13.
The early manuscript indentures include wills, mortgages, conveyances and more, and date from the mid-17th century to the late 18th century.
Most of the documents are written in ink on parchment on paper.
The documents were found in the attic of the late Mrs Peacock of Middleham and include many names of families still living in Wensleydale today.
The archive will be available to view prior to the sale, from Tuesday 9th – Friday 12th May from 10am to 4pm.
