Award for Leyburn children’s author

Hannah Russell with Alf.

Wensleydale author Hannah Russell has been announced as the Yorkshire Author of the year 2023 with the Yorkshire Prestige Awards.

Hannah first began writing about her miniature Shetland pony Little Alf when she was 17 years old.

Hannah now has 19 books published and runs a visitor’s centre based at her home in Masham, where you can meet the animals from the Little Alf adventure series.

In the past few years Hannah has wrote several other books all featuring her animals and now runs a website and blog called ‘Hannah Russell, Little Alf and friends’ which reaches around two million people a month.

Hannah said: “It’s lovely to receive such a fantastic award — there are so many creative and great writers in Yorkshire.

“I feel really proud to have received this. I’m really lucky to have built a life I love and share within my fictional stories, very grateful for all the readers across the globe.”

Hannah will be presented the award at the Yorkshire Prestige Awards later this year.
