Bench set on fire in Richmond

A bench was deliberately set on fire in Richmond last night.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said cardboard had been placed on the bench.

It was then set on fire.

The incidnet happened near the Station at around 10pm last night.

A spokesperson from Richmond Fire Station: “Cardboard from nearby bins had been stacked on top of the park bench and then set on fire.

“We extinguished the fire using a hose reel.”

Richmond firefighters, who are asking parents to make sure they know where their children are, say they have attended numerous small fires recently.

“Whilst dealing with these, it makes the fire appliance unavailable for more serious incidents.”
