A competition for the best Christmas lights display will be held in Leyburn this year as part of festive celebrations organised by the business community and town council.
The Lower Wensleydale Business Network is working with Leyburn Town Council to run a series of events and activities to celebrate Christmas.
In previous years there has been a Christmas market, as well as music events and a chance to meet Santa.
Organisers say things will be different this year due to the pandemic and they are looking at different ways to involve Leyburn businesses and residents.
One idea is to encourage businesses to offer a ‘festive fiver deal’
Leyburn businesses – retailers and hospitality businesses – are encouraged to offer a service or product at a special £5 deal only available during the event.
It is expected the offer would run from December 3 to 19, although those dates are reliant on shops and hospitality being able to re-open.
A competition for the best shop window display is being planned, as well as a best residential Christmas display.
Residents would submit a photo of their display which will be loaded onto the Leyburn Christmas 2020 facebook page and judged by the public on the number of likes received.
Entries should be received by Sunday, December 15 at lwbusinessnetwork@gmail.com.
Organisers are also looking for a sponsor for this competition to fund a trophy for the winning display.
