Body found in river during search for missing Bedale man

Police searching for missing man Alexander Nicholson have confirmed that a body has been found in the river.

Mr Nicholson, 70, was last seen in the Bedale area on Thursday.

Officers conducting searches in the area discovered a man’s body earlier today in a rural stretch of river between Northallerton and Catterick.

While formal identification has yet to take place, Mr Nicholson’s family have been informed.

They are being supported by specially trained officers.

A police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and contacted us with information and recent sightings.”
