A boy injured after falling from a roller coaster at Lightwater Valley is in a critical condition.

Police have issued the update this morning following the incident at the theme park on Thursday morning.

Police also say the boy is aged seven, not six as originally notified.

It was initially stated that the boy had non-life threatening injuries but police say the child was assessed at hospital and found to have injuries that would not have been apparent at the scene.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are now in a position to provide an update in relation to the incident at Lightwater Valley Theme Park near Ripon involving a seven-year-old boy.

“The boy was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with head injuries following the incident where he currently remains.

“However, his condition is now described as critical.

“Although this is a joint investigation by North Yorkshire Police and The Health and Safety Executive, the HSE currently has primacy.”

The incident happened at abou 11.30am on Thursday.

The boy fell from the Twister roller coaster.

Witnesses said they saw the boy hanging backwards from the car before he fell.
