Campers rescued after getting caught in storm

Two campers were rescued by volunteers after getting caught in a storm over the weekend.

The pair had set up their tent beside the Pennine Way below Great Shunner Fell, between Wensleydale and Swaledale.

Members of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team were called in to help in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The team said the “experienced campers” were struggling due to “the Bank Holiday storm blowing through”.

An SMRT spokesperson added: “Their tent was taking a fair pounding, so we assisted them from the Pennine/Herriot Way below Great Shunner Fell to Hardraw.”
