Cancer charity fundraisers hand over £40,000

Members of the Bloodwise Wensleydale branch with a cheque for more than £40,000 handed over after a previous event.

Members of the Bloodwise Wensleydale fundraising group have handed over a cheque to the charity for more than £40,000.

The incredible amount was raised over the last year by members.

In May, the group held its sixth Beating Blood Cancers Ball in a marquee in Harmby Road, Leyburn.

They hosted an afternoon tea before the ball featuring special guest speakers the Calendar Girls.

Money was also raised by five members of the group paddling, cycling and running their way back from the Lake District.

The challenge completed by Josh Westwood, Peter Westwood, Paul Westwood, Joe Westwood and Chris Greig raised £4,000.

A concert by Muker Silver Band to mark its 120th anniversary raised more than £1,800.

A further £4,900 was raised by members being sponsored to complete the Great North Run.

Wensleydale’s fundraising group for Bloodwise aims to raise money and awareness for blood cancers.

It was formed in 2012 and since then has raised more than £170,000.
