The candidates have been confirmed for the Leyburn Town Council election due to take place next month.
Perry Gardner, Independent, from Wensley Station, will stand against Derek Riley, Independent Democrat Working for Leyburn, from Moor Rad, Leyburn.
The election will take place on September 7.
The vacancy for a councillor follows the resignation of Bernard Borman, who stood down earlier this year claiming the authority was “dysfunctional”.
The election will cost the taxpayer £3,000.
