A car transporter on fire caused delays for motorists on the A1(M) yesterday.
The vehicle set alight on the northbound carriageway near the Catterick junction.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the transporter was carrying scrap cars and towing another behind.
A spokesperson said: “The fire started due to the scarp car being towed burning out the gear box.
“The fire spread to the three scrap cars and the rear of the transporter.”
Richmond firefighters, who were called at about 3.20pm, used three hose reels and breathing apparatus.
