Cars set on fire after crash in Dales village

Two vehicles set on fire after a crash in a a Wensleydale village last night.

The incident  happened in Main Street, West Witton, at about 10.10pm

A car crashed into a parked vehicle.

The occupant escaped the car before both vehicles caught fire.

Fire crews from Leyburn and Reeth attended the incident.

The crews extinguished the blaze using two hose reel jets, two breathing apparatus and small tools.

  1. There was talk of a by-pass Road round West Witton over 40 years ago to make it safer but nothing happened.

    Why wasn’t some of the £7.06m safer road fund money spent on a West Witton by-pass and improving the bridge over the Bishopdale beck about three miles west here on the A684 road where many accidents happen.

    Most of this £7.06m was spent on resurfacing of the A684 which you would think should have come out of a general maintenance fund, not a safer road fund.
