Cash stolen during Catterick Saddle Club Christmas show

Catterick Saddle Club's Christmas event.

Almost £500 in cash was stolen from Catterick Saddle Club during the annual Christmas show today.

The money was taken from a cash deposit box in the club’s office at around 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

It happened towards the end of the club’s annual Christmas event which included fancy dress and show jumping, with around 50 children and adults taking part.

Lacie Hawkes, yard manager, said she had just left the office to help a young rider who had fallen off and banged her head when the theft took place.

She said: “People were in and out helping me clear up when unfortunately a young rider fell off and hit her head.

“I went down to help and that’s when it happened.

“The money was in a cash box and we had bundled the notes together. They left the box and the coins, but took the notes.

“There was £490.  I’m absolutely gutted and devastated. The worst part is that it was someone who we probably know who was there joining in with the fun.”

The riding club has recently been granted charitable status.

Lacie said the money would have helped the club look after the horses during the winter months.

The incident has been reported to North Yorkshire Police.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote reference 221220190372.

An appeal has been launched to replace the money which was stolen from the club.
