Le Cateau Primary School in Catterick Garrison has again been rated as good by Ofsted inspectors.

The rating follows an inspection by the schools watchdog last month.

Ofsted inspector Philip Scott concluded that the leadership team had maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.

He added in a letter to the head: “Working alongside a highly skilled and talented governing body, your determined leadership has brought about improvements to teaching and learning.

“You have rigorously addressed any issues of under performance and have brought together a skilled and enthusiastic teaching team.”

The next steps for the school were identified as ensuring that teachers’ expectations of pupils’ progress and attainment remain consistently high, and that work set challenges and stretches pupils’ thinking and understanding.

Inspectors said the school should also further develop the school’s inclusive learning environment.

“Leaders should ensure that the rates of attendance for disadvantaged pupils improve quickly, and especially reduce the proportion of disadvantaged pupils who are persistently absent,” the report added.

Headteacher Ian Mottram said staff were extremely proud of what they had achieved considering the significant amount of mobility the school had experienced.

He added: “The fact that the values of the school and our inclusive nature have been praised yet again is testemant to the dedication we have to this.

“Following the arrival of 130 new pupils in September 2015, the school has worked hard to ensure we continued to promote the family feel.”

Mr Mottram said the reported highlighted the positive attitudes displayed by pupils.

“This is what is really important to us,” he added.

“As the school moves forward with the building of three new classrooms and a hall extension started this week, we are pleased that the inspector identified the many strengths of the school.

“The school was already working hard on the areas identified for further improvement and these are key features of our improvement plan.”
