Pedestrian seriously hurt in Catterick Garrison accident

Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was seriously injured in Catterick Garrison today when he was struck by a HGV.

The incident happened on Leyburn Road, between Camp Centre and Plumer Road, at around 5.15am.

It involved a white Renault heavy goods vehicle and a man aged in his late 20s.

The man was taken by ambulance to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

He is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

Local diversions were put in place while the emergency services worked at the scene and to allow a full police examination.

The road reopened at around 10am.

Officers are appealing for any information that could assist the investigation, including possible sighting of the man or the white Renault heavy goods vehicle prior to the collision.
