Catterick Golf Club’s junior golfers are continuing to impress, with players enjoying success on both the national and regional circuits despite the club’s junior section being only three years old.
Leading the way is Nate Doherty, who produced a superb two-under-par round to win a Ping Junior Tour event at Ramside Hall.
The victory moves him up to sixth in the national Order of Merit, leaving him in contention for a top-eight finish and a place in the tour finals at Ping’s headquarters later this year.
The club’s youngsters are also making their mark on the regional ACED Junior Tour.
Michael Brotherton currently leads the Under-18 Order of Merit after a string of consistent performances, while Thomas Wallace is fifth in the Under-10 standings.
At the latest ACED event at Barnard Castle Golf Club, Brotherton claimed first place in the Under-18 nett competition, Thomas Wallace finished fourth gross in the Under-10 category and Noah Colley placed 14th gross.
The trio followed that with more success at Darlington Golf Club, where Wallace finished runner-up gross in the Under-10s and Brotherton again took the Under-18 nett title.
Brotherton has also enjoyed success in other competitions, finishing third nett at the Saltburn Junior Open before being crowned Nett Score Champion at the Teesside and District Boys Championship.
Club officials say the achievements underline the rapid progress being made by Catterick’s junior programme, which was launched just three years ago and has quickly established itself as a breeding ground for talented young golfers.
The club is keen to encourage more youngsters to take up the sport and holds coaching sessions every Saturday.
Two one-hour sessions are available, from 12pm to 1pm and 1pm to 2pm, with coaching costing £6.
