Catterick Parkrun celebrates first anniversary

Catterick parkrun is celebrating its first birthday this month.

Volunteers first met at Darlington South Park in May 2017 and say that since then have tried to build a “positive, inspiring and atmospheric” event each Saturday at Catterick Racecourse.

Catterick Parkrun volunteer Linda McDermot said: “Absolutely anyone can try out their fitness in fresh air, and be encouraged and inspired to come back again.”

Soldiers from The Gurkha Company of the 2nd Infantry Training Battalion ‘took over’ the run on May 26.

A total of 253 people travelled around the circuit, of whom 35 were newcomers with 121 recording personal bests.

Visitors from Rugby, Nottingham, Wales and London took part, as well as Jon Forster from Bushy Parkrun – the original and largest of the UK parkrun community.
