A Catterick Village man has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting assaulting a man at a local pub.
Jonathan Holt, 49, of Beckside, appeared before York Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 23, where he indicated a guilty plea to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court heard that on September 13, 2025, Holt assaulted a named man at the Bay Horse pub, Catterick Village, causing him actual bodily harm.
Deputy District Judge Kate Harney told the court the offence was so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified, describing it as “appalling offending in public”.
Holt was sentenced to 24 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. The custodial term was suspended due to his lack of previous convictions and what the court described as a significant prospect of rehabilitation.
As part of the suspended sentence order, Holt must comply with supervision requirements for 18 months.
He was also ordered to pay £1,000 compensation to the victim. The court made no order for costs and imposed no surcharge, stating that compensation would take priority. A collection order was made, with Holt required to pay £30 per month starting from Monday, March 23.
In addition, Holt has been made subject to an exclusion order banning him from entering the Bay Horse for 18 months.
The exclusion will remain in place until August 22, 2027.
His guilty plea was taken into account when sentencing.
