Catterick Village U16s raise money for Spanish adventure

Catterick Village Junior Football Club’s U16s team has launched a fundraising drive to raise money to attend a tournament in Spain.

This team is competing in the 2023 Costa Daurada Cup tournament in Cambrills, Spain.

For the first time in over 10 years, the club has an U16 team competing in the Harrogate and District Junior Football League.

With many of the squad being at the club since primary school, the club is planning their Spanish adventure in recognition of the service that the boys have given to their team.

Daz Rhodes, club development officer, said: “It’s an idea some of the coaches have had for a while but once we started looking at the possibility of taking the boys away for a different kind of challenge, we realised that there was an opportunity to create some life-long memories.

“With dad’s being invited along, our squad members will be able to look back at this time in years to come and tell the story of their European adventure to their own children.”

The club are trying to make the trip as close to a professional experience for the squad as possible where they will all travel together on a team coach in CVJFC clothing, eat together at the same meal times in resort, train together and experience tournament football against European teams.

The end of the tournament will culminate in a stadium tour of the Nou Camp in Barcelona.

Fundraising for the trip has already started with a summer football tournament held at Catterick Village Sports Field and raffle competitions at their annual presentation evening.

A race night has been planned and the squad have been encouraged to find their own individual player sponsorship” from local businesses.

Paul Hankin, commercial officer, said: “This will be a fantastic experience for our U16’s squad and we have been encouraged by the businesses and organisations that have been eager to assist with kit sponsorship and donations so far.

“We consider our plans to be a wonderful opportunity for any businesses who would want to raise their profile by partnering with us and we are keen to attract as much interest in our Costa Daurada trip as possible.”
