Catterick’s Roman heritage goes on display at library

Artefacts that will be on display at the exhibition.

Northallerton Heritage Hub is hosting a new exhibition shining a light on Catterick’s Roman past.

Cataractonium: Preserving Catterick’s Roman Heritage will run at Northallerton Library from 22 September to 20 October, featuring a collection of Roman artefacts excavated from the Catterick Garrison area.

Curated by Mark Hill of the Catterick Garrison Veterans Historical Archive, the exhibition offers a rare glimpse into Roman Britain through locally discovered objects. Items on display include catapult projectiles, knives, coins, jewellery, and everyday possessions such as a bronze rat-tailed spoon and an antler comb.

A special wargaming day will take place on Friday, 18 October, from 10am to 1pm.

Visitors will be able to view delicately painted miniatures and even take part in a replica Roman battle, hosted by the Brompton Bankers.

Both the exhibition and the wargaming event are free to attend and open during library opening hours.
