CCTV cameras proposed for vandalised public toilets

Council officials say they are working to reopen two vandalised public toilet blocks in Richmond and are considering installing CCTV to stop the damage.

The Richmondshire District council run facilities in Nuns Close and at The Falls were closed earlier this week after a bout of serious vandalism.

And officers are asking Richmond residents to help them fight the vandals by being extra vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity to the police.

The authority is also looking to provide extra surveillance in the areas – including CCTV cameras.

“We apologise for the problems these closures cause but we need to work on repairing the damage and preventing future vandalism,” said Corporate Director, Colin Dales.

“We are eager to reopen as soon as possible and work with the police and local residents on combatting this anti-social behaviour.”

There are alternative toilets in the Market Hall in Richmond.
