Ceiling Demons are promising a special gig when they play Richmondshire Cricket Club on Saturday, December 23.

Ceiling Demons are an alternative art-rap/spoken word band from Richmond and the masked project has taken influence from artists such as Kae Tempest, Joy Division, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Tricky.

Combining poetic wordplay from twin brothers; Psy Ceiling and Dan Demon, over an array of instrumentals that sways from acoustic to cinematic to raw to experimental and beyond. Ceiling Demons aim to strike heart strings with their intense and chaotic performances touching on themes of love and loss delivered with a punk philosophy.

They have been strong advocates of addressing mental health issues in their art and have worked extensively with suicide prevention charities such as CALM to raise awareness and funds for a cause close to their hearts.

Ceiling Demons have supported the likes of Young Fathers, Sleaford Mods, Dylan Cartlidge, Ceschi and Armand Hammer and have been praised by media outlets Louder Than War and NARC.

The group often perform live with Art Demon – their in-house artist who creates unique pieces of art during shows and their latest 2021 album Snakes & Ladders was widely garlanded for its originality and panache.

Psy Ceiling said: “We’re excited to be performing at the Richmondshire Cricket Club in our hometown on the run up to Christmas! The festive period can be an intense and difficult time of year for many, so we hope to bring some upliftment in the form of original live music and togetherness during this time.

“As it’s coming up to the ten-year anniversary of our debut album Dual Sides, we hope to celebrate a decade of putting out music with a mix of songs from our discography on the Saturday before Christmas with the people of Richmond.

“Myself and Dan (vocals/songwriters) will be joined by our incredible band of Chris ‘Shadow’ Shaw on guitar and Sam Reed on drums. Art Demon will be creating some original art during the performance and Darlington based folk singer Zarahruth will join us on backing vocals to complete the Demons lineup on the night.

“We’re also delighted to be bringing our friend Shakk over to Richmond to support and perform here for the first time. Not only is Shakk the current presenter for BBC Introducing North East, he is a phenomenal rapper that has released some incredible hip-hop tracks in recent times.”

Tickets for the gig cost only £10 and can be bought through www.wegottickets.com or niall_hickman@msn.com or from Tim at Blues Night, Frenchgate, Richmond.
