Craig Hignett to be guest speaker at Wensleydale football league’s centenary dinner

Hartlepool United manager and former Middlesbrough player Craig Hignett has been announced as the guest speaker at the  Wensleydale Creamery Association Football League centenary dinner.

A dinner is being planned to mark the 100th anniversary of the league.

The event will recognise the achievements of players old and new and will look back over the past 100 years of local grassroots football.

The celebration, which will include a three course meal with a champagne drinks reception, will take place at the Garden Rooms at Tennants on Friday, June 7.

The league, which currently features 11 teams from across Richmondshire, has been run by a small number of loyal volunteers since its formation in 1919.

Keith Jeffery, secretary of the League, said: “This is an extraordinary occasion and wonderful achievement.

“There aren’t many grassroots leagues that have been supporting the development of local players for as long as the Wensleydale League.

“We hope that the evening will be a celebration of not only our league but grassroots football as a whole.”

Tickets for the evening are priced at £40 per person and can be purchased by contacting the league treasurer Stacey Crowther on stacey@entrepreneursforum.net.
