Charity continues to provide hot food to Richmondshire elderly

Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington has kept its essential services and phone lines open over the weekend to make sure that older people in crisis continue to receive the support they need.

The charity has continued to run hot food delivery services in the Richmond area over the weekend to ensure that older people are getting at least one hot meal a day.

Telephone lines are open to provide urgent information and advice on how to access Coronavirus related services and financial help.

Older people can also access the charity’s Good Friends telephone befriending service to receive a regular phone call to help reduce feelings of loneliness and to make sure that they are OK.

Helen Hunter, Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington chief executive officer said: “Easter is normally a time where older people would receive visits from loved ones, but this year many are facing isolation and loneliness.

“We want to make sure that we continue to be there for them, so that they can receive a hot meal, a telephone call or get support to access critical services.”

“Our team have given up their bank holiday weekend to ensure that at this crucial time we are there to help older people in crisis. At this time there are many who have no-one else to turn to in their time of need and we wanted to make sure that all older people are supported to access essential information and services during the holiday period.”
